In the 1880's James Boag founded a tradition of brewing excellence on the banks of the Esk River. He was committed to brewing only the finest quality beer, using the freshest possible ingredients and employing brewing standards of the highest distinction.
Today J. Boag & Son remains true to James Boag's vision and devotion to the brewer's craft is as strong as ever. Traditional brewing methods that first distinguished Boag's beers are still employed and the secret ingredient the award winning beers remains the pride and passion of the team at J. Boag & Son.
Visitors to the brewery have the opportunity to experience the 'real Boag's. The tour takes visitors through a fully operational brewery where the brewing process is explained from where the raw ingredients are added through to when the finished product is ready to leave the brewery. All visitors see brewers implementing traditional brewing methods to brew Boags world class, gold medal winning beer and get up close to a state of the art packaging line - filling 800 bottles per minute.
The knowledge and passion of the Boag's Centre for Beer Lovers staff combined with their ability to interact with visitors, ensures that each tour experience is authentic and personal.
Tours conclude at the Boag's Centre for Beer Lovers with an interactive beer tasting experience. Visitors are placed into a uniquely enviable situation of being a member of the Boag's tasting panel where they can taste and appreciate the characters of each of the award winning Boag's beers.
Tours operate weekdays from the Boag's Centre for Beer Lovers, located in the historic Tamar Hotel. The Tamar Hotel is one of the oldest Georgian buildings in Launceston, built in the 1830's adding authenticity and tradition to the tour experience.
The Boag's Centre for Beer Lovers houses the Boag's Brewery Museum featuring displays ranging from traditional coopering exhibits to the mysterious and intriguing Helmut Newton images. In addition there is a large range of merchandise available and two fully restored bars where tastings are conducted after the tours.
