Waterholes Guest House

Our guest accommodation.

Profile

Waterholes Guest House is more than just a place to sleep and eat, it provides an escape to peace and tranquility, with comfort and fine food, in a modern day "Garden of Eden". It is a totally new destination offering a very private and exclusive opportunity for travelers wishing to discover a genuine Australian experience.

Surrounded by the vast light-filled eucalypt forests of East Gippsland yet sited in a welcoming natural clearing bound by the pristine Nicholson River Waterholes is a delicious surprise for visitors.

Modern Australian design, the work of local artists, and the natural beauty of the scenery delight the eye, while the other senses are satisfied by birdsong, bush smells, fine home grown food and a high level of comfort.

We have three purpose built suites, each designed to delight the senses with king size beds, ensuites with shower and large bath, and private balconies.

A short garden walk brings you to the guests' sitting room with library and fireplace where you can relax, and then into the dining room for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Picnic lunches can be provided on request.

While you stay at Waterholes explore our extensive gardens, take pleasant and varied walks along shaded tracks and pathways following routes opened by the gold miners of last century, swim in the clear waters of the pristine river or relax on its shady banks.

Of particular interest to travelers is the wide variety of Australian fauna here in their natural habitat. Four gliding possums, koala, kangaroo, wallaby and wombat all grace our secluded acreage and spotlight walks reveal their nocturnal lives. Over one hundred and twenty species of bird have been sighted on the small property and these add to the beauty of this unusually varied environment.

Here in East Gippsland we are encompassed by incredible natural beauty and variety. The Gippsland Lakes (the largest expanse of inland waters in the southern hemisphere) rim the coastline - just climb out of your boat to walk over the dunes and you are on the Ninety Mile Beach! Explore the hinterland along the famous Snowy River and walk in the old growth rain forests of the Errinundra Plateau or view the 600 metre drop of the Little River into the deepest Gorge in Victoria. Visit the Buchan Caves and discover beauty under ground as well.

And don't forget the winter! Snow! East Gippsland really does have everything including a superb climate for both summer and winter fun. From the picturesque town of Mallacoota surrounded by the spectacular coastal scenery and walks of the Croajingalong National Park, through the warm and friendly small towns along the old gold routes, to the superbly designed Alpine Village of Dinner Plain and down again through the mountain cattle country to Dargo then into Stratford and Sale to discover a new world of theatre and the arts presented East Gippsland style, the traveler cannot fail to be thrilled. Innovative accommodation, delicious food, and a lack of pretentiousness make East Gippsland a part of Australia you shouldn't miss!
